2 Timothy (Lexham research commentary)
Douglas Mangum, E. Tod Twist
Any unique message in 2 Timothy can be easily overlooked, as most commentaries approach the message and themes of the Pastoral Letters as a collection. They emphasize the shared themes of church administration and the opposition to false teachers. One underlying purpose that has been suggested for the Pastorals applies especially well to 2 Timothy—the idea of leadership succession (see Gloer and Stepp 2008, 51–52). Paul seems particularly concerned with his ministry legacy in 2 Timothy.
